What’s wrong with me?

My husband had hartmans procedure 4 weeks ago. He was very unwell for weeks before and now has a wound that is still not healed and requires packing every 2 days at our surgery. Consultant is happy that cancer was all removed and nodes that he removed were clear. I should be turning cartwheels but I’m so low. Keep crying all the time. My kids just get cross with me. Never felt like this in my life. Dreading Christmas on our own.

  • I doubt that anything is wrong with you. I would imagine that the whole shock of it all has been playing on your mind for some time - & the tears you are now shedding are a mixture of feelings - that you have perhaps kept bottled up - for the sake of your husband. The tears are probably ones of grief, yet also elation - as the news sounds very good for him.

Don't worry about Christmas - it's just two days on the calendar! Just plan on something nice to do together - even if it's watching old films you like.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Crisp

Sorry to hear you're feeling so low.

I agree with Marianne26's advice - if you feel pressured or stressed, why not reschedule Christmas to 6 month down the line (a lovely sunny celebration) and just treat the upcoming days as any other. But try and find things you love to do, as you all need to be kind to yourselves.

You may also like to use the Macmillan helpline as they are experienced in the wide range of emotions any of us may feel at times.

Cancer is a rollercoaster. Hopefully this emotional, overwhelming point you find yourself at right now will soon flip over into an easier phase.
