Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has a similar diagnosis to me? I was diagnosed T3N0M0 in August. A scan showed the tumour was too tricky to remove so I was down for 6 rounds of Folfox. I'm just about to have round 6 then The hospital are going to scan me to see what affect its had. My 1st question is has anyone had good shrinkage with just 6 rounds as it doesn't seem very much. I'm petrified they're going to tell me I need at least another 6 rounds. I'm not sure I can cope with it. I will need a right hemi-colectomy eventually & then I'm guessing more mop up chemo but I've no idea how much. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

  • Hi

    Welcome to the forum .

My mum had a right sided hemicolectomy .
She had six rounds of chemo first and the scan report said it had significantly reduced the tumour . She could not tell herself but it had done the job !

She too found it quite tough !

Hope it’s done a great job for you though .

  • Hi MrsJay!

My word! my husband's name is the same `Jay` although his proper name is James but it's what he has always been known as. Anyway, I'm hoping the MDT team can put him on FOLFOX when he sees the oncologist again. He was on CAPOX but it made him ill midway through cycle 4 and they had to stop it. He's had a spread to his pelvis and his kidney function last time was reduced slightly they will decide if he's able to go on it if his blood tests come back ok. I've heard good things about the FOLFOX so here's hoping. Take Care.

  • Sorry! It's Folfox or 5FU I think they want to try him on, don't kno if they're one and the same but I think I've heard good about both. Side effects may be a little more adverse but seemingly the treatment has a significant effect.

  • Hi Patty K. I have an infusion once a fortnight & that includes being sent home with a 5FU infuser pump which releases over 48 hrs then I have it removed (from my PICC line) I find the pump really annoying, especially at night, but you learn to cope with it. I had 4 rounds of FOLFOX at 100% but then they reduced it to 80% as I felt like I was having a heart attack plus the neuropathy was kicking in. Everyones different so hubby will just have to see how it goes. Best of luck & feel free to message me if there's anything you want to ask.

  • Thanks. We'll find out this week if he is to go on to this or not.

  • Hey. I had a right Hemicolectomy in October. I have 6 rounds of Folfox. They never told me the tumor shrunk significantly but it shrunk enough to have the surgery. My Doctor did tell me the tumor which still quite large when she removed it, I have a post op appointment on the 12th so i guess i'll find out what the plan is then. Good luck to you.

  • Hello & thank you DadPool40, glad you've had your op. My treatment has now been halted until I've seen a cardiologist Disappointed  I hope you're recovering well & fingers crossed they've got it all. They usually want to do some sort of mop up chemo as I understand it. Look after yourself Hugging
