My mum is one month post op for rectal cancer. She had a total rectal resection with an ELAPE and stoma formation.
She is really struggling with rectal pain- she is unable to sit at all. There doesn’t seem to be a post op infection or abnormalities and she was told this is likely normal and could last 3mths. She has increased her oxycodone but unfortunately with no effect. Does anyone have any advice or tips?
Hi LauraH83. Yes it’s still early days yet after such a big operation. Could you contact her doctor and see if they can prescribe something strongly for a few weeks? With regard to sitting I’ve heard others mention that a Valley cushion is helpful. I think they’re quite expensive but you could see if your local mobility shop lends them out or I think some companies will let you hire them? I’ve attached a link to a previous post which may help?
