hi I wonder if anyone has had this treatment. I have stage 4 bowel cancer that has spread to my peritenial cavity and liver. I'm not curable but am having 8 treatments of Irinotecan to slow the spread. My Oncologist wants to add Panitunumab to my treatment but I have read up on it and the side effects sound awful. I am coping pretty well with the Irinotecan and getting out and living life. I don't want to be feeling ill for whatever time I have left. I would like to know how others have coped with this drug.

  • Hi.

I also have stage 4 bowel cancer that has spread to my liver. I have been having chemo since I was diagnosed in Nov last year, starting with FOLFOX but then replaced by FOLFIRI (includes irinotrcan) and alongside both of these treatments I have had panitumumab.

The main side effect that I have had is a rash on my face and body. This has varied over time and was quite bad on my face at one point so I had a short break from the drug to give my skin time to recover. I was provided with lotions to apply to the skin and I regularly take antibiotics now to reduce the rash which is currently manageable. The only other symptom that I have had is that my eyelashes have grown longer.

Altogether I can say that my experience with panitumumab hasn’t been bad, even though having a rash on my face all the time does  get me down.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi, I had bowel cancer 10 years ago and thought I had been cured however, after an unrelated Ct scan I was diagnosed with recurrent bowel cancer. Stage 4. I have no treatment plan in place   as my oncologist said he’s not offering me treatment as I’ve no symptoms!!! I relented and gave me 5 days radiotherapy as I do have symptoms in my hip as a tumour is in my sacrum. Im shocked I’ve not got a treatment plan in place and next appointment not until 25th November.
