5FU + folinic acid

Hi, CrumpetsOrToast,  I had 30 weeks of 5FU with the folinic acid. It was by IV weekly, and the theory is that it is a lower dose over a long time. Having said that they did reduce it twice. I did work throughout with adjustments but it is cumulative. Happy to answer any questions you may have, yes it seems an uncommon regime.

Hi I haven’t started the new regime yet. Frustratingly my white blood cells have been too low.

Gemmary - do you know whether that’s likely to happen with the weekly bolus too? The course of chemo will be never ending!

Thank you! I’m hoping there will be fewer bumps in the road on the 5fu/folinic acid regime.

Initially you will have bloods checked weekly, so they can proceed. If bloods play ball, then this will go monthly. I got mine done at my GP , save the travel. So if you are low it won't go ahead, they will make a reasoned judgement. Hope yours return quickly so you can start! They added the missed ones on the end in my case.....

I think bloods will align with your treatment plan at least at start. I have fortnightly (48hr+) IV, so my bloods are done fortnightly 2 days before IV.

 thanks for your responses. I’m happy to hear that I’ll get weekly blood tests, at least initially, as the team can keep a close eye on things. It’s scary when your white blood cells go low.
