Hi everyone. I am 24f and on Thursday I was diagnosed with bowel cancer following a flexible sigmoidoscopy in which a 30mm polyp was found and biopsies were taken (they did not remove this then, as this was too big and I need to be referred to a different hospital) he advised them he did think was benign

My doctor rang me last Tuesday and asked me to come in face to face on Thursday and bring someone with me. On the call I was advised some high grade dysplasia was found however they were waiting for further results. On the meeting on Thursday, they confirmed I have cancer.

I am a complete mess right now. At the appointment my doctor advised he thinks we have caught this early and I will live a normal and happy life. He said 2/3 years this would’ve been bad. He thinks this can be removed via TEMs procedure, however if not he thinks this can be removed via surgery. He said the polyp is in a good location for only a small part of my bowel to be removed, I shouldn’t need a stoma but if I do perhaps temporary.

I have my ct and blood tests tomorrow, and an MRI on Thursday (I think it’s more rectal cancer but I haven’t been officially told). I am so scared, the main thing going through my mind right now is chemo and radiation, and losing my fertility at 24. I am in a long term relationship and in the next few years I wanted kids.

I am so scared these scans will say this has spread. I so desperately want this removed just with surgery. Has anyone experience with removing bowel cancer with no chemo or radiation? Not sure how I’m going to get few these next few weeks.

  • Hi. Sorry to hear this. Life can be cruel sometimes but we have to deal with what comes don't we. As much as that sucks sometimes. A good attitude will make a world for difference. It's always hard hearing something like this. My bowel cancer went undetected for years but we caught it at stage 3. I'm on chemo at the moment. It's been a hard road. Only 2 sessions left before surgery. I feel for you. I'm 41 and was shocked I I had it. I'm not a drinker or smoker so it kind of blindsided me. At first I was angry. Then upset as I have 3 young kids. I'm going to be fine though and will make sure I am. It's good they caught it early. My healthcare staff have been awesome. Yours will be too. Good luck. Remember we are all here for you and the Maggie's centre is quite useful
