  • Hi . I've just noticed you've not yet had a reply to your post, I don't have the same type of cancer so sorry, I can't help but by replying it'll "Bump" your post up to the top of the discussion threads so I'm sure someone will be along to answer. This is a very busy group and the sheer number of posts made your post drop down the listings.

    Sending hugs, B xx

  • Hi . I don’t think I lost weight before treatment but I did during and certainly durung my hospital stays. I’ve attached a link to a booklet with some handy hint about eating healthily during treatment. If you’re struggling with your appetite then your doctor can prescribe high calorie drinks like Fortisip or you can increase your calorie count yourself by adding cream and cheese to mash potato, eating full fat yoghurts and deserts, eating puddings etc.

    Hope this helps

    Take care

    1. Hi Winst8. I have Stage 4 bowel cancer. Diagnosed this January. I lost weight at the start due to worry, anxiety, disbelief etc. I found that drinking Whey Protein milkshakes once a day for a couple of weeks helped me. I also made sure I ate breakfast, elevenses, lunch, evening meal and pudding daily. I didn't want to eat, had no appetite to eat (still don't most days) but knew I had to eat to stay 'well' and try to fight this. It's a battle I won't win but I knew that not eating or losing weight would do nothing to help me.
  • Hi, my hubby's first symptom was weight loss and tiredness. He now eats plenty of high calorie foods, so cream cake, butter on everything, pork pies, ice cream, chocolate.  Low fibre so white bread, peeled veg, no nuts. Unfortunately part of the weight loss is due to portion size. If he eats too much it causes discomfort, so little and often. And the stress you are dealing with will cause weight loss. Let us know how you get on x

Hi Winst8. It's not for me to tell you what to eat.....dealing with cancer is difficult enough but I would say try and eat a good varied mainly healthy diet of fresh fruit, veg, diary, fish and meat with the odd treat.

The 2 main reasons for me doing this are to 'eat well to stay well' and eat food that will be easily digested (if you get my drift).

I wish you well on your journey Winst8. Keep us posted Blush

I've had several cycles of chemo so I'm currently on a break from it. I'm due next CT scan early November and provided the results are OK I expect to go back on chemo
