I have been told I need chemotherapy and radiotherapy 5 days a week for 5 weeks. They hoping to reduce the Tumour before operation.
I believe i will be given oral chemotherapy. Has anyone else had chemotherapy this way, and if so are the side affects less.
Many thanks for your experiences in advance.
That’s a real issue ! My mum had an incident right outside the hospital on her way to a scan once !! I am 100% sure it was caught on their cctv ! She also seemed to think I could magically produce a toilet! Yikes !
Lesson learnt ! We had a half hour drive to the hospital so we decided on a plan of action . Go a bit earlier and drink the water outside the building !
Not sure if it would work in the radiotherapy situation but worth finding out !

Hello…
Today is my last treatment!! I have been taking chemo and radiotherapy for the last 5 weeks, mon-fri for the same reason. I have managed to keep reasonably well and get out for daily walks and a cycle. Capecitabine has not been bad really, little nausea, went off a lot of foods but still managed to find things I could eat. The radiotherapy has only recently started to effect my skin and cause some bowel discomfort which I was given medication to help. The nurses are amazing as soon as you have any discomfort they are on it and provide whatever you need to help with side effects. I have spent the last 5 weeks focusing on my treatment and eating healthy and keeping active as well as rest and getting plenty sleep… this is a time you need take care of yourself and hopefully you will manage it well. Keep positive and take each day at a time.
Hey, I had 5 weeks of the chemo radiotherapy, exact same as you from 21st July to 26th Aug this year, I was diagnosed with 10cm rectum tumour on 1st March, they started me with 4 cycles Capox chemo, then chemo radiotherapy.
I handled the cape, really well though chemo, so thought be fine though radio, I was absolutely fine for the first 3/4 weeks. Towards end of 4 week was getting fatigue, which was fine, but I then was getting really bad diarrhoea, on the Friday of the end of week 4, I was not quite right so was told to go and see the triage team at the hospital, they admitted me for 4 days as to get my diarrhoea under control, I also had a blockage in my bowel which as well didn’t help things, plus my rectum was narrowing, they was brilliant but please be aware of the cape does cause serve diarrhoea, it’s really important to get seen if you have it. I did leave it for 10 days thinking it was just a side effect of the radio, which the doctors told me off for. Now just coming to the end of the 7/8 weeks rest before see my oncologist again to see weather it’s shrunk enough for the operation.
look after yourself sarah.
Hi Catz321.
Well done finishing your chemoradiation treatment! When I had mine, it affected my skin a little. The radiographers recommended that I used Fairy washing products to wash my clothes as it is deemed gentle enough for babies. My skin cleared up straight away and I still use it now.
Best wishes
