Hi,

I'm new here, but quite used to the womb cancer section!!!

My husband had a Colonoscopy last Saturday, and hasn't had a decent bowel movement since. Is this normal after this procedure, and if not what should we be doing? He has had prunes for two days and today tried a dose of Lactulose. Anyone else had a problem?

  • , it takes a few days for the bowel to fill back up again, after its trauma!! Particularly if you are still on a low residue diet. So in my experience this is 'normal ' but can you ring the colonoscopy team? If it was as a result of bowel screening then there should be a contact number. I know I had to and found them helpful.

Hope that might help! Ask if there are any other questions. Take care.

  • Thanks for that, Gemmary. I guessed as much, but its nice to know from someone who has been there. He had throat cancer 14 years ago, and I battled along on my own then. There was nothing on the internet. I will no doubt be back with more questions. I am NOT battling along on my own again!

I did try to contact the nurse in charge, but she was off duty, and its now weekend!!

  • Hi . You could give the nurses on here a ring and run it past them? The number is 0808 808 00 00 x

  • Just thought. My team also recommended docusate sodium, which goes by one name of dulcoease (beware as there are lots of dulco... something)

This is still my go to. Both this and lactulose are fairly gentle.
