My Mum has stage 4 anal cancer with 3 lymph nodes involved and 1 metastasis on her liver in section 4B.
It went from T2 tumour to this after her PET scan and we were told over the phone.
Today we are seeing the oncologist for the first time since it changed to stage 4. We saw him before and agreed treatment but now he says it is incurable etc and it feels like he is writing my mother off already. They have been awful since we found out, no care no communication and we have had to phone them for everything. Bristol hospital was meant to be good but so far they have just added to the stress and worry my mother has.
Anybody who has/had stage 4 like my mother, what treatment did you get and what treatment helped? Any questions I should ask the oncologist today?
Also any advice on caring for her etc is very much appreciated. She struggles to eat and I have gotten her onto protein drinks to get some calories/protein into her as she has lost weight and a bit of muscle pre any treatment.
Welcome
We actually have an Anal cancer group which is really good and you might like to join them too! Some treatments for anal cancer are similar but some are a bit different , although a lot of over lap but you might get some more specific treatment advise on the Anal cancer group .
I have accepted your friends request if you check and I will send you a PM . If you would like to chat through the liver cancer aspects I am happy to do that ! It is a very distressing time and your mum sounds as though she has had a tough time getting diagnosed. The first meeting with the oncologist can be really crushing in a stage 4 setting as they unpack the worst of information. However after that it can get a lot easier. . We were dismantled at the start and felt as though she was written off . However my GP was amazing and encouraged us to wait and see if she mounted a response. That carried us through . Just that small gesture of hope !
My mum was 67 at diagnosis with no symptoms.
It is not a situation without hope and I will contact you later . It felt like a series of unfortunate events at the beginning!
I am on holiday just now and need to head out but I will reply.
