Has anyone had treatment outside NHS?

I am very happy with the treatment I have received from the NHS as everything moved fast after diagnosis & have just had 2nd round of chemo with 2 more before hopefully surgery. Just exploring all options to give surgery the best possible outcome. I have read about Proton beam therapy which just targets the cancer in hard to reach areas plus chemosaturation & immunotherapy. Wondered if anyone had experience of these treatments. I am aware they will have to be paid for.  Thanks

  • Hi

To be honest I would need to read the research on proton therapy again . I have not heard much of it relating to colon cancer and you normally get a feel for it in the USA if it’s possible . But I like to keep up on these things too so will have a look .

In terms of Immunotherapy. My friend was able to access it privately as it was not available on the NHS at the time . It gave her amazing results . In the end her funding ran out and she transferred to the NHS and just in time Immunotherapy became available on the NHS and she even had the same consultant but not her amazing nurse who she had grown very fond of .
She had a different primary and sadly it advanced in an area they could not regain control in . All the previous tumours were still resolved right up to the end .

Just thought you might like to read the success of Immunotherapy on this thread . I think both are accessing it on the NHS but might be encouraging to see their progress .
I have followed the success of Keytrunda in the USA for colon cancer for a few years now. Mainly with MSI or lynch patients where the cell type was compatible.

    Take care ,
