I'm on Day 6 now with the Capecitabine. I'm feeling ill, nauseous all the time and not wanting to eat, although I am forcing myself to as much as I can. I'm usually very active and this is hitting me hard.,I've tried the visualisation about the drugs killing the cancer cells, but I can imagine a time soon when my body won't 'allow'; me to take all those tablets. Sorry to sound like I'm whinging, but I am getting quite low now.

  • Hi Mariscotia, I took those tablets. With 5 weeks of radiotheraphy I never thought iit would end but it did, I was tired with nausea dry retching. But it gets better. I’m not the fitness person but I tried to go for a walk everyday. My biggest problem is anxiety. Wishing you well. I think any cancer treatment from what I’ve read on this site is hard to endure. So I’tthink I’m the biggest whinger ,  so I think we have the right, so don’t  apologise xx sending hugsxx

  • Oh Mariscotia,

All I can say is (for me) week two eased a little & by the time the next cycle starts you know what is coming & it does sort of make it more bearable! Hopefully things settle down a bit for you from here on in & that you gain the strength on your ‘week off’ (if you’re on the same treatment as me?) For your next cycle Raised hands

Wishing you ALL the good vibes! & remember! We are in this together!! It’s TOUGH but we are getting through it! & soon we will look back & time will have passed & passed & passed & it will be just a memory.. Raised handsRaised handsRaised hands

  • I felt exactly like you when I started the tablets . I felt so ill mentally and physically . Around day 6 was the worst for me , I think it was something to do with coming off the steroids . I couldn’t get out of bed for 2 weeks . At one point I thought I wasn’t going to do the second cycle but somehow I found the strength knowing I’d regret it if I didn’t . I wasn’t as bad on second cycle but was still soooo sick and tired . The oncologist decided to lower the dose by the third and although it was still horrible it was more doable . I had 4 all together and now I’m out the other side I’m so glad I kept going . Talk to the oncologist , they will put your mind at rest ..... and be kind to yourself , don’t beat yourself up if you can’t get out of bed .... sending a gentle hug XX

  • I totally agree NellyB!

So important to just do what you can & not beat yourself up, some days are better (& this means some are definitely worse)

Reat & lots of liquids (to help flush it out) is the key for me. I couldn’t even manage a 5 minute walk during round 1 or for the first week of round 2. It’s so shocking how it hits you & really just floors you!

So happy for you that you’re out the other side &’wish continued strength & good health for you Raised hands

Resding the stories of board members who have come through this are really inspiring & your experience so valuable so a big thank you!

  • Hi Mariscotia,

Its definately not easy and i'm not sure how many tablets you are on but i was taking 11 per day 5 in the morning and 6 in the evening, this is what i was doing.

Eating mostly jacket potato, salmon and scrambled eggs and plenty of water which i think helps prevent the sick feeling. Not sure about you but after a week or so i could smell the chemicals coming through my skin which did make me feel sick but i used to wash down arms face and chest with some body wipes to help with that.

Don't worry what happends around you if possible, i got up in the morning, had shower and breakfast, took meds then back to bed exhausted.

every so often i would get up walk around the house or garden then back to bed again, didn't care about anything other than getting through the 16 weeks  chemo but i had a wonderful wife that looked after me as best she could.

I really hope you get better and the meds get a little easier but i know how horrible it is and will be thinking of you, all the very best,

  • Thank you TG. I do find the pills the difficult thing. I've on 5 + 5 monring and evening. I am taking them between mouthfuls of breakfast in the morning, and with great trepidation near the bathroom at night (after my experience the other day). I have spoken to my chemo centre and they talked me through a better regime with the anti sickness meds. |I also have a second one called Ondanestron, which my husband picked up yesterday. The new regime is better, but I'm far from normal! However - I can drink more water - yay! Amazing how everything seems an achievement. I'm at the beginning, week 1m so still an enormous mountain to climb. Can't wait for the week off, but before that i've got my 2nd covid jab. My husband has been so helpful, leaving me be if I want that, or doing a bit of shopping etc. Thank you for your help.
