Not much more to say about this subject really! Just wondered if anyone had found a good solution.

  • Hi Mariscotia,

I am constipated for the first few days after the Oxaliplatin infusion - i was told it is a common side effect from the Ondansetron anti-sickness tablets that I have to take for the first 3 days. But then diarrhoea from the Capecitabine kicks in (very suddenly!). So I personally would beware of taking too much to counteract the constipation. Hope you are feeling well and coping with the side effects x

  • Hi I agree with veggie lady, constipation million times better than the other ... especially with a stoma ....

  • Usually I am constipated for a few days after the Oxiplatin infusion, but then about day 4 some diarrhoea from the capcetabine tablets starts...

Though this is usually manageable & happens just after breakfast (on the first 2 rounds) & I drink lots of water for rehydration so haven’t had to take any of those tablets Raised hands

  • Thanks Suzy. I've got some Cosmocol still from post surgery and started to take it again - but it's vile, especially in warm water...eek! I shall have to watch for day 4, meanwhile up the water intake,.

  • Thank you for the warning. I'm not feeling too bad, probably due to the steroids. Also I didn't feel sick but took 1 anti sickness before going to bed in case it kicked in during the night. 2nd sleepless night though despite taking steroids at 7.15 a.m. Some pins and needles, keep forgetting how many cold things lurk about the house. How are you doing now?

  • Hi Mariscotia,

I am okay thank you! After my infusion yesterday my arm felt like someone has thrown boiling water all over it. But today it just feels very sore, like a case of bad sunburn. Tomorrow it will be much better!
And yes, the constipation has kicked in, and I was wide awake from about 4am, but I know that will change soon, so it’s manageable.
Yes, unexpected cold things! Our kitchen is warm but cutlery and crockery  can still catch me out if I have dared to take my gloves off.
Hope you are feeling okay too x

PS I was told to take the anti-sickness tablets twice a day regardless of whether I felt sick or not, they keep the nausea at bay.

  • I’m taking laxido  started off with 1 satchet a day but have increased to 2 . It does take about 5-7 days to start taking affect so not immediate but there hasn’t been any urgent need to go or stomach cramps .

  • Slept much better last night, have tweaked the pill regime. I'm having a slice of toast about 45 mins after evening meal to take the pills with. We tend to eat earlier than most people I think. Not eating much anyway. I think one problem of others(worry) was that I was just plain hungry in the night! I also take the anti nausea in case, though I did feel slightly nauseous yesterday, and a bit of a headache.I'm going to have to have a PICC line as my veins won't stand up. Constipation still here despite 2 Cosmocol yesterday, Dropped the milk in the drawer this morning - tingly fingers worse. I keep touching cold things by mistake. So Day 4 is here, that is, if you include the infusion day...

  • Thanks Takayasu, it gets a bit of a balancing act!

  • It will be reassuring when I can discern some sort of pattern. Day 4 is here, (if |I count day 1 as infusion day), so will see!
