Due to leave for the hospital shortly & am feeling apprehensive about my first chemo session. I have been told that drinking anything cold or touching cold things will cause a bad reaction. Can anyone give me advice on how long it lasts & apart from obvious cold things like the fridge what else shouldn't I touch? Thanks

  • Hi Ollie’s mum,

good luck for today. FOR TODAY, Bring something for leaving the hospital  to wrap around your mouth like a big scarf so you don’t breathe in any cold air (it can affect your throat)

Have a boiled kettle handy to top up any drink (like orange juice, milk or water)

The length of time it lasts is different for everyone.
I found it best to avoid going outside at all even if it was slightly chilly for the first week (on this round) as the cold really affected my face & earlobes,

Once you get the first one over you you’ll sort of know what to expect for the next one Raised hands

let us know how you go, thinking of you,

    Suzy

  • Hi

Hope it all went smoothly for you and you are safely home getting a good rest !

Hope the team treating you were supportive and reduced some of the anxiety with it all being so unfamiliar.
Watch out for some floor surfaces they can be quite cold . Someone here made me laugh as they have put socks on door handles . I would never have thought of that but thought it was a great idea .  ! My mum had wee white cotton gloves which came in handy too.
Apparently cold toilet seats are an issue but the solutions unsatisfactory!

    Take care ,

  • Thanks for the replies. Wasn't to bad yesterday & am getting used to the new regime of tablets. Feeling ok this morning with a few side effects but nothing that can't be coped with.
