A few weeks ago after endometrial cancer stage 1 diagnosed a CT scan picked up that I have bowel cancer stage 4!  I have really fallen apart.  I am widowed and age 72 but I am told very young for my age and I am very fit too being a Nordic walker.  I have my final test this Thursday which is the flex sigmoidoscopy.  I have a provisional consultation next week with an oncologist.  I am petrified he will say bowel cancer has spread from lungs and liver elsewhere.  I feel it is sometimes surreal at the moment as I feel quite well.  I just keep feeling that I am going to die and cannot face the thought of leaving my two beautiful daughter.

I have been widowed for 15 years after seeing my husband of 31 years die from kidney cancer which was diagnosed at a late stage when not much could be done.

Sending love to all the other lovely people on this site and comforting to know I am not alone.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community. I'm sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with Bowel cancer as as result of a scan as well as being diagnosed with Endometrial cancer. This must've been a huge shock for you as it is for all of us who get a cancer diagnosis when least expected. I wasn't going to bother the Doctor as a I thought a few pink spots on my undies were too insignificant to take up her time but it turned out I was developing cancer. My bestie nagged and nagged & I'm so glad I listened to her.

The online community is divided up into different support groups and I see you've already joined the Bowel cancer forum where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others making the same journey. I'd also advise you join the Womb cancer group to share experiences there and get further support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear. It's free to call on 0808 808 00 00  8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look to see what is available by Clicking here .

There is also an Ask an Expert section, but you should allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section
