Hello - I had been having pain on and off for 10 months on my right side. Suspected gallstones but u/sound 2 months later found none. I had periods of being pain free (a couple of weeks) but my appetite reduced and didn’t want to eat certain foods. Pain (severe cramping) increased and then in January I vomited after a night of pain. Called GP who did a GI referral. Six weeks later hadn’t heard anything and was vomiting again. Called GP again to chase up GI ref, but after questioning me she put me on a 2-week referral. Within a 2 week I’d had blood tests, endoscopy and a CT scan and a referral to the surgical assessment unit fir a week later. However, the night before I was in increased pain and was vomiting again so asked my partner to take me to A and E. Dr there said although my CT could be showing cancer it might just be inflammation. They transferred me to the ward and the GI consultant came and told me that it was cancer with possible spread to the duodenum and they would be performing an ileostomy and biopsies that afternoon and then probably chemo. A big shock - both knowing I was going to have a stoma and that I had cancer! Op done with biopsies. Came home last Friday and yesterday the GI consultant nurse rang and said biopsies confirmed T4 cancer and I had been referred to oncologist. I never had any of the usual symptoms I.e. bleeding, diarrhoea etc - just pain, loss of appetite, not being able to eat much, so this has come as a big shock to me and my children and my partner. I’m worried about the T4 part of the diagnosis particularly. Sorry for the long post and if you’ve read this far, thank you. Viv
Hi VivW
Welcome to the forum . I can totally understand why you have had such a shock. Great that you are safely through surgery and recovering from that .
Take all the time you need to find your feet after all that but hopefully we can also support you as you prepare for the next part of your treatment. If I am reading it correctly you are about to have chemotherapy, there is lots of knowledge and support on the forum which should help reduce some of the fear . Others too have had a t4 and continue to do well .
Ask anything you like or join in any thread . There is always someone around .
My mum had absolutely no symptoms picked up on a bowel screen and was stage 4.as it had already spread to her liver . It took time for us all to level out but we did eventually and the chemotherapy was very effective .
The scanning is really robust in bowel cancer and they are quick to act .
Hope your enjoying some of the sunshine today !
Take care ,
Court
