Hello, I have just joined and posting on behalf of my Mum who was diagnosed in 2019 with bowel cancer, she now has a stoma and cancer has metastised to liver (for second time), lung and stomach lining. Cancer is not curable but possibly treatable and she is starting chemo again on Thursday. I am worried about her strength to get through the chemo again especially as the cancer is more advanced now and I am looking for some advice about how to help boost her immune system with certain foods. I have also read about some potentially cancer fightiing/supressing fruits and wondered if anyone has any further information about what my Mum can eat bearing in mind she now has stoma and not much appetite. Want to try anything I can for her as we don't know how long she has. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ,
Sorry to hear about your mum . I have linked in a couple of booklets for you to have a read of . Also our helpline staff might be able to give you some guidance . 0808 808 0000.
If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story of dealing with a secondary spread . Some differences in that here was from initial diagnosis and she did not have a stoma. However diet was tricky as she lost so much weight. Hopefully others who have managed chemo with a stoma will join in and give you some pointers that are relevant.
Great you are thinking ahead and planning how to manage it . It took us by surprise.
Take care ,
Court

Thank you so much for your reply, your Mum has had quite a journey!!! Great news that things are going in the right direction for her! Thank you for the information, this is really useful and I think maybe speaking with a dietician is good way forward. Also great to know there is someone on the other end of the phone!
