Hi,
so I’ve just seen consultant and plan of treatment for my rectal cancer is 6 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy followed by an APER operation about 2 months later. I’m likely to have a permanent stoma bag following this. It would be really great to hear others experiences of this kind of treatment plan.
thanks so much,
Hi
I just want to welcome you to the forum . I am going to tag in Kareno62 as she may have more insight into part of your treatment plan . I am a carer and my mum’s cancer was located on the right hand side .
Others may advise you too . Always good to get others experience and insight .

Hi Cagz, I can relate to the first part of your plan as I had 5 weeks of radiotherapy with chemo at Guys in 2019. The chemo was capcitebine in tablets and this helps make the radiotherapy more effective. The treatment was ok and I only had minor side effects. Hopefully you will cope well with it. This part of the treatment worked well and shrunk the tumour considerably. I then had a couple of months before a Lower Anterior Resection and had a temporary ileostomy for a year, which has now been reversed.
The main operation was by keyhole and recovery was straightforward. If you do end up with a permanent bag you will cope, you get used to it and can have a pretty normal life and there will be a lot of support for you.
I wish you well for your treatment and hope it goes well for you. John

Hi Bop
just wondering how you’re feeling now you’re coming to the end of your treatment?
I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow to discuss when I can start my radiotherapy etc but just want to get started with it all. I worry that the waiting will mean it spreads!
hope you’re doing ok,
take care xx
