I saw my consultant 2 weeks ago and it was said I would go straight to surgery to remove my rectal tumour. She said normally pre covid she would give me a date there and then for surgery within 2 weeks. Now things are very different I will have to wait. So can I ask how long after your appointment with your surgeon were you waiting? Obviously I want it gone ASAP as at the moment it hasn’t spread but I feel like I’m stressing that it could anytime. Thanks x
Hi there, yes the waiting for news in between is very stressful and not helped with covid at all.
I had my first check up early November (symptoms blood in stool only), followed by 2 scans and then the news of actual diagnosis on Xmas eve. My tumour was obstructing my colon and operation was classified as being very urgent. My doctor gave me the date of 11th Jan but did not know the hospital venue then. Around a week later the hospital was confirmed which was an intense relief, to say the least. I was placed within a private London hospital, which had an entire floor converted especially for colon cancer patients. My operation went ahead on 11th Jan and I was discharged on the 16th.
Prior to the operation I was really careful with food portions and what I consumed on a daily basis as I was just anxious I did not want to disrupt anything within my colon further. And I followed a low fibre diet with lots of plain, boring food and definitely no hot spices, which I usually like.
All the best to you, hope you have your confirmation soon. Try not to worry too much Take Care
I was diagnosed in September, surgery done end of January. A few months but my tumor was considered "small" and slow growing (not from the sample but I was told they generally were). It might depend on size and severity as well whether it's spread.
I had a few scans (wait time for scan from my colonoscopy was a month and 2 weeks). Waiting for results was also around 2-3 weeks.
They told me beginning of January that I might have to wait for weeks or months, but then called me a week later with a surgery the following week. I think things change fast at the moment, what with covid etc, but you might be surprised. Probably every hospital is different.
