Hi I'm Jane 3 weeks a go my partner and I were planning our wedding, now I live day to day. Steve my partner collapsed and after 9 hours sat in a chair instead of a spinal board was found to have prostate cancer that's spread to his spine, hips and legs. Thanks to A and E ignoring him, he has only partial feeling in his legs. Stage 4 cancer. He's had hormone injection and a good blast of radiotherapy. But every time something changes I just collapse. Has anyone on here had this, are painful spasms normal, as well as extreme tiredness. Is this the treatment or have things got worse.
Hi Jane
I am really sorry to hear that your partner has had a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. I understand that this must have come as a shock to you both.
I see you have found the Prostate group on here and there are a lovely bunch of chaps on there who will be able to offer a lot more specific support. I am glad that you have found the Carer's group and I am sure you will be able to connect with others who are also doing the difficult job of caring for someone with cancer. It can really help to share with others going through similar things.
Has your partner been given a Cancer Nurse Specialist? These would normally be your first point of call with any worries and concerns about changing symptoms, for general support etc.
I had radiotherapy (and other treatment) for my endometrial cancer in 2022 and radiotherapy can definitely make you feel really tired. I remember being told that it was normal and that it can continue for a while after the last treatment.
I would suggest your partner contact his team and mention the painful spasms as there may well be something that he could be prescribed to help ease them.
It can be really tough to support someone through cancer and if it would help to talk to someone about how you are feeling, then please do give the Support Line a call. They can also take a look and see if there is any other support for you both in your local area.
We are here when you need us.
Jane
