My mum beat cancer in 2017 (neck)

recently we have learnt she has secondary bone cancer in bones such as her pelvis.

she has recently started hormone drug injection as her treatment to manage symptoms. This is monthly with tablets daily.

in the last weeks her mobility has got so much worse. Pain in her legs etc and she is now unable to bend.
has anyone experienced this and maybe if treatment will eventually mean she can walk again?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. You might also like to join and post in the secondary bone cancer group.

If you don't get any replies there, it might be an idea to also join the main head and neck cancer group as I'm sure you'll find people there whose primary cancer has spread.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello Lauren

I'm so sorry to hear that your mum has secondary bone cancer and is experiencing pain and restricted movement in her joints. It must be a terrible blow after beating neck cancer several years ago.

My partner's experience is not identical BUT he has suffered from pain in his bones and joints following his own treatment.

For the past three years he has been going to the hospital every three months for bone strengthening - by process of infusion (like a drip) that takes bout 15 minutes.

This process has helped to alleviate his symptoms considerably.

Please excuse my ignorance, as I am not speaking from my own personal experience, am no expert - and your mum's condition may be totally irrelevant to my partner's.

I just wanted to reach out, seeing that you'd had no replies to your question, which can be a horrible feeling at a time where you can easily feel isolated from the world.

I do hope you receive some more hopeful advice and that your dear mum is able to beat this for second time.

Lots of love to you both xxx
