Hi friends,
i know that different biopsies take different amounts of time to process. But if anyone reads this, will you let me know how long your biopsy results took? I had a core needle bone biopsy done on 8/21/19. It is now 9/3/19 and I’ve heard nothing. This waiting has left me in a really bad state. The biopsy was needed because an x-ray and ct scan showed that mass on my manubrium (top of sternum) that I’ve had for 17 years, has very likely transitioned into a malignancy. The imaging report stated, “highly suspicious of malignancy”. After an utter breakdown in the hospital, they sedated me and rolled me into a ct scan to do the bone biopsy. For whatever (ignorance) reason I had it in my head that I’d have the results within 48 hrs. Two days later I was informed that my hospital sent the biopsy to Mayo Clinic. 13 days later, here I am, still terrified and scouring the internet for reasons why a biopsy might take this long.
If anyone has any insight my head and heart will be forever grateful.
Thanks for taking the time to even read this. ️

Hi Kelly and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear how scared you are waiting for the results of your biopsy but this is a perfectly normal reaction and you wouldn't be human if you didn't feel like this. However, the trick is to try and find something to occupy your mind while you're waiting for the results. Some people throw themselves into their work while others clean the house from top to bottom (mine needs doing if you've done yours) or indulge themselves in hobbies and activities.
I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered so thought I'd suggest that you post your question about the length of time that biopsies take in ask a nurse and one of the specialist nurses will respond within 2 working days. As you'll be aware this is a UK based site so the answers will revolve around treatment and waiting times here which might differ from the States.
When I had a biopsy to find out what the skin lesion on my arm was it took 6 weeks for the results to come back. Here it largely depends on how busy the pathology labs are as to how quickly results come back. Most skin cancer biopsies are back in 2-4 weeks.
I hope you don't have too much longer to wait
x
