Hi all - I hope everyone is managing their situations to the best of their ability? my heart goes out to everyone on here affected by cancer :-( - I am a 53 year old male, 6 months post diagnosis of stage 4 UT urothelial cancer (nodules also in lymphs and lungs) with no previous symptoms. I have just completed 6 rounds of chemo (cisplatin and gemcitabine) which has been relatively successful in that no new tumours over the period and existing ones are shrinking slowly. Just about to start on immunotherapy treatment (avelumab). It is a rare form of bladder cancer so really struggling to find anyone on even remotely the same journey to share stories :-( My oncologist is pretty direct and is telling me that the immunotherapy is maintenance only, that surgery is not recommended in my situation and that my cancer will start growing again in the future (1 -2 year MLO on how long the avelumab will old it back) which is pretty depressing to hear. Interested to hear stories of anyone else's experience with either Avelumab as a drug (effectiveness and also side effects) and/or anyone else with experience of stage 4 UT urothelial cancer?

  • I'm sorry I can't help you at all but I can sympathise because mine is also a rare cancer.   I haven't found anyone to share experiences with.   I sincerely hope your treatment helps,  who knows what advances we will see in a couple of years.   Please keep positive. X

  • Hi  and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear of your situation. We don't come across Avelumab here very often but hopefully some one who has experience of it will be along. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Rusty Wedges Although I haven’t got the same cancer has you I have had bladder cancer since 2020 eventually had my bladder removed 2022 but it came back in my lymph system. I had the same chemo as you and had a complete response and went onto Avelamub January 2024 it’s working I have got some small lymph nodes but they are not increasing in size my oncologist is happy to carry on minimal side effects just a bit of itching.I do hope I have helped a little and good luck
