Morning all, Ive been looking through the threads of your posts and I see that a lot of you with Grade 3 bladder cancers have had this treatment which seems successful. I am currently on my second cycle of chemo which has been challenging this week due to constipation from Akyneo steroid.  This has now passed with the use of quite a few Laxido powders which actually have made me feel naff.  Lots of stomach aches and slight nausea too.  I am interested in knowing what BGT is?  Not something I have been offered although my oncologist did mention immunotherapy, if needed, after my chemo has completed.  I will also take on board your advice - don't look on google!!

  • Hi LB230 I went the same route as you, in my case because of muscle invasive bladder cancer. BCG is usually give for noninvasive I think but someone on here will tell you.

After they took out my bladder I had some immunotherapy too. I recently posted about that on another thread.

Am really only replying with my family's patent remedy for constipation. 1. Drink at least 2 litres of liquid, preferably water, every day - learnt from a bowel surgeon years ago - I've had constipation for years. 2. Stop taking the anti- sickness pills rhey give you with chemo. I was worried but only felt mildly nauseous once during 4 rounds, 3. drink gallons of homemade broccoli soup plus dried apricots, prunes, plums etc. Worked for me without the powders. And tasted much better too.

    All the best,

  • Hi  . BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) is a vaccine used to treat non muscle invasive bladder cancer and help prevent recurrences. It is a mild form of the vaccine usually used to treat tuberculosis. Administered directly in to the bladder, it triggers the body's immune system in to action. Cancer cells are sneaky and fool the immune system in to thinking they are normal, and so the immune system doesn't react as it would with other diseases such as flu. The BCG sticks to the cancer cells. This then alerts the immune system to fight it and as such kills off the cancer cells at the same time. That's the theory. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
