Hi all hope your all OK?

Cancer nurse said that the consultant wants an MRI scan of the bladder?but the bladder needs to heal a little from the tumour removal before the MRI

I said why if it's coming out anyway? She said they want to see the state of the bladder before the op, I was a bit confused by this , has anyone had this in their treatment or anyone know why?

Thank you in advance for any info xx

  • Hi  . An MRI gives  highly detailed images of the bladder and surrounding areas. It helps with a more accurate diagnosis and if the bladder has to come out, it helps to show if there would be any obstacles in the way. All standard procedure. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Podperson,It’s normal to have an MRI or Ct scan at  diagnosis. It won’t matter that you are recovering from the TURBT.Scans will provide all the details for your urologist/surgeon to get you the correct treatment. The scans will show size of the cancer and whether there is any spread of cancer elsewhere.Once you have had the bladder removed you will have regular scans to check your progress and make sure everything is ok.They compare scans with the previous ones to see if there are any changes.Once I had swelling of both kidneys on one scan but 6 months later they were fine on the next scan.I hope this helps.Jane x
