Just discovered this site so please excuse lengthy post and questions

I had Turbt 7 weeks ago , have foĺow up Turbt next week to check removal of tumour. I am having incidents passing blood  every  few days ( 5-7 days)  When passing , painful and only very weak stream  have seen what I think small clots. Also pain in penus

I am drinking min of 2lts water as advised everywhere. Is this to be expected as I was under impression bleeding should be stopped by now. ... can't contact my GP till after weekend

I have additional issue that I'm waiting Heart surgery for leaking valves early next year AND AM TAKING BLOOD THINNERS TO PROTECT HEART...... This obviously hinders healing as its to stop clots ?

Any comments, similar experiences appreciated

  • Hi  and welcome to the group. You can expect to see blood in urine for up to a month after a TURBT and in general the wound usually heals after about six weeks. Any heavy or strenuous activity can aggravate the wound. Taking blood thinners could affect things and I would seek medical advice. do you have a CNS who are usually the best people to talk to? Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Drinking water helps to flush debris and blood seepage from the bladder. Many on here recommend lemon barley water if drinking only water becomes a bit tedious. Passing blood is an unfortunate, unwelcome and often alarming occurrence with bladder cancer. I still have these worrying episodes and have had them to varying degrees since 2017, continuing now and then after two TURBTs in 2018. The last one was just a few days ago.  However, I have a Foley catheter and I'm not on blood thinners. riley's advice is wise as these symptoms, although quite common, need to be monitored by your medical team so that they can offer you reassurance and treatment/advice as necessary. Well done for finding this forum which offers help and reassurance available from others via shared experiences which can be supportive whilst waiting for appointments and results. Best wishes.
