do scan results go up on my chart? I’m due to hear if kidneys etc are ok or not having had cystoscopy showing probable bladder cancer. It’s so scary! Anyone else gone through this?

  • Hi JoyceF

My scan results were never available on MyChart

I had to ask the surgeon who checked and said they were all ok

  • Hi Joyce,

We've all gone through it and all worried and tried to second guess what the results say or might say and what it all means or not. But I'd like to suggest a different approach.

Since my first appearance at the one-stop shop where my hospital started to check me out, in 2022, to Turbt to starting Chemo and then treating side effects to then having my bladder removed, to moving to quarterly review by the oncologist, to starting Immunotherapy to stopping after 3 session, I have lost count of the number of CT scans, MRIs , PET scans, ultrasounds etc that I have had.

When I started all this I felt fine and looked great - I'd never been fitter, even if there was a little blood in my urine. But I had cancer and my wonderful team have got it out and managed to keep it away so far. I do everything I can to help them with that.

The scans are to help them plan our care. Sometimes I can see results on mycare (that's what my hospital uses) but that doesn't always happen so I ask the oncologist and/or surgeons when I have our regular meetings to discuss what's next. They are always keen to give me a full understanding. They need patients to work with them but don't always realise what we need to know. I have a good idea of the medical side because I love to learn and they respond to that. But if you don't want to know they'll work with that too. Your specialist nurse will be more available soon and will help you cope with this.

What my journey has taught me is that worry doesn't cure cancer so I've trained myself to not waste my precious energy on what-ifs. I can't affect what's going on inside me. But I can affect how my husband and daughter cope with this journey. We've agreed that we'll deal with any problems as and when they arrive and until then I try and downplay them. It has worked well for us.

I'm not Pollyanna. There is every chance that the cancer could return. And we've already had to deal with things like deep tiredness, unpleasant soreness on feet and hands, plus an irregular heartbeat but I'll be damned if I let this cancer ruin what's left of our lives.

So good luck with your journey and you'll soon know what you are dealing with. Try not to let it get you down, there are lots of us dealing with it, mostly coping OK.

  • Thank you. Lots of things for me to think about in what you said. Heart

  • Joyce, I have my kidney checked every year with a CT scan.  My bladder tumour had its root in my ureter (tube which joins kidney to bladder).  They seem to always check the kidney so do not overthink it.  My kidney is fine and bladder all looking good after 2 years.  Good luck with your journey x

  • Thank you for your reply Heart
