Bladder and kidney

Hi.

Just reading other people's experiences and maybe I am just a panicker.

Blood found in a routine urine test led to scans and a look inside.

Found *small* growths in bladder and 2.5cm lesion on kidney.

Back for meeting last week and now await bladder op then kidney op later in the year.

It just seems like either this is a simple straight forward thing or it's going to somehow turn out to be far more serious than I am being told.

Is it just that I have no coping mechanism?

  • Hi

Firstly, welcome to the group, which I hope you will find helpful and above all supportive. Too be quite honest, you're going through what is probably the worst time: waiting for results. Now the fact both growths are small is good news. Bladder Cancer has a record of being successfully treated and the procedure you're going to have is a TURBT, which effectively means they will remove the tumour and test it for malignancy.  Only then will they know whether it's cancer, or not,and decide on treatment, which can take many forms.

In the case of your kidney,  again, being small is a good sign. Small masses are less than 4cm and have a "history" of slow growth and not spreading to other parts of the body. I suspect that they will remove the growth and test it to see if it's malignant. In either case, both incidents are likely to be treatable, but I'm not an oncologist. I know about the kidney as I have a small growth on my remaining left kidney, which been there for several years (long story).

Now in the meantime, try to do things that keep your mind off the situation. Stay away from Dr Google and come on here whenever you feel low, or to ask any questions, no matter how silly they may seem, or just come for a chat. We are very a supportive and friendly group, so don't be a stranger.  If you have a Clinical Nurse at your hospital you may wanted to contact them and have a chat. However, there are experts on this site that can help, such as the Nurses. Welcome

It doesn't matter where you go, there you are
  • Morning Hughmann and welcome to the forum. I think the majority of us on the forum, felt the sense of panic when we were told that a lesion had been found. I think thats a perfectly normal reaction. Like Ianw says, you are going through the worst bit, not knowing and waiting for results. Stay with the forum , you are among friends who understand and will support you all the way. Take care

    Much love Angela x
