Hi, I have just finished my first 6 BCG treatments, 19th July, for non invasive but high risk bladder cancer.
I am struggling with extreme fatigue, constantly feeling sick and trying to cope with daily chores. Feeling very low in mood and no energy to do anything.
Wondering if anyone else feels the same and how long does it last.
Hi Gena g and a warm welcome to this friendly and supportive group. Sorry to hear you are suffering with the effects of BCG. We know it is fairly common. Not had this myself but we have members here going through various stages of the treatment and I am sure will be along to offer advice. Best wishes.
Hi Gena g,
Welcome to this group but sorry to hear about your issues.
I also suffer from fatigue after BCG instillations, but mainly because I'm constantly rushing to the loo during the night and the pain when peeing.
This only normally lasts 24 hours for me, so sorry to hear that your symptoms have been going on for longer.
Having BC and going through the treatment's does play on the mind, it's very draining mentally as well as physically It's sometimes difficult to pick yourself up and this will have a drain on your energy levels.
On the plus side, you're doing great. You've completed the induction instillations which can be tough. So massive pat on the back there.
The first few Months are so hectic, so much going on you hardly have time to think, being pushed and pulled all over the place, in and out of hospital. The mind rushing about the BC.
I really hope thing's start to improve soon, keep drinking lots of water, try to get out if possible and look after yourself.
Take care and keep us posted.
Trevor
Hi Trevor,
Thank you for your response.
Sorry to hear of your issues too. I hope you are doing well. Luckily for me the frequency and urgency have eased. Still get when I least expect them. The fatigue just seems to be getting worse every day. I know that it affects both physical and mental health but thought after 2 weeks off treatment it would ease.
Thank you for your encouragement for finishing the induction. Now preparing for the next camera on the 13th August. I agree about it being hectic, it's like being on a roller coaster that you can't get off!!
I do keep drinking lots of squash. Find it difficult to get out but do try. You take care too and thank you

I will echo Trevor. Extreme fatigue has been a common symptom for me of BC and the treatment. At times, it can seem depressing not least out of fear that it won’t improve. It will improve and there is some light at the end of the tunnel. My circumstances are similar to yours but started about a year earlier. Accept you will need to do nothing but rest at times. All you think you need to do will wait. Take care of yourself.
Hi Gena g
I totally agree about the extreme fatigue. I felt exactly the same. I finished my BCG induction at the beginning of July and had my check cystoscopy on Monday, unfortunately suspicious red patches were seen so I'm back in hospital for biopsies under GA in mid August. The rollercoaster never seems to pause for very long before we set off again on another fun trip .
Take time to look after yourself and congratulate yourself on finishing the induction. From this point on they will only be in sets of 3. Yay!!
Sending you love and positive vibes Ade xx ️
Hi CDN
Thank you for your reply. I think I find it so hard as it seems to be getting worse. I know it is going to be a long hard road but it should all be good in the end. I hope your journey is going well. Finally joining this forum is my first step in asking for help. Find it so hard to do. You are right I need to accept that sometimes rest is the only important thing. You take care too.
Hi furbabymama
Thank you for your reply. I think it would be easier to cope if it wasn't for the fatigue. It looks as though we are both about the same place. I'm sorry to hear about your red patches. I have been booked for a GA cystoscopy with biopsies 13th Aug. At least I am missing out on one of the cameras. We'll just have to enjoy the ride.
Need to take one day at a time I suppose. That's true didn't think I was going to get to the end of the induction.. Definitely yay only sets of 3.
Love to you too, take care
Gena xx
