Hi all,
My dad has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. He is still undergoing tests. So far what we know is that it isn't operational, the size of the tumor is 8-11cm.
It seems that there is something in his lung too. They don't know if the two are related. He is booked in for a biopsy next week. We have to wait for the results before he starts treatment, which means another 20 days of wait. I am so worried that time is passing and things will get worst.
I can't stop thinking the worst, I don't know what I can do to help. He is in pain. The painkillers that got prescribed don't always help. The pain is unbearable, he noticed that when he is in such pain he pees pieces of blood. I don't know what comes first. Is there a remedy that helps in situations like this? We are going to speak with one of the doctors to discuss the medication. But anything that can help please let me know.

Hi Ele26 and welcome to the group although sorry to hear your dad has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. The early days of not knowing and uncertainty can be the worst. Not sure what you mean by non operational. When you say he is going for a biopsy, can we assume he has not had a TURBT op yet? 20 days in this world will not make a great deal of difference. If dad is peeing blood and clots, the main thing is that he drinks plenty of water to flush things out and prevent blockages. Make sure he has a drink at hand at all times to keep taking a drop. Best wishes.
Hi rily thank you for your reply.
He is in Greece and the medical system is quite different. In some regards more flexible as we can push a bit things but at the same time there isn't any mental support.
He has seen 3 urologists so far. Two private and one in the hospital. All of them said that it is better to let it be and not scratch the bladder tumor because it is very advanced (you can actual touch it). They didn't even want to do a cystoscopy. They didn't want to cause any bleeding. This was their wording
They said that cystectomy ( that's what I mean with no operational) is not an option either, his only options are either radiation or chemotherapy. One of the urologist said that the treatment may be able to shrink the tumor a few centimeters.
The plan for next week is to have a biopsy on his lung and the surgeon said that he would take a biopsy from the bladder too. Not sure with what method though. We are trying to figure out what it is best as the urologists adviced against but the oncologist prefers to have both biopsies so she can target the therapy.
Everything is so confusing and it is difficult to see him in so much pain. He drinks water but I think he afraid to drink too much as he needs to pee sometimes every 30 min and it is painful.
Just feeling so useless not being able to help him.
