Hi,my father has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer, initially told small 3cm tumour then on TURBT it was found to be huge and extended through the muscle wall and inoperable. He is having an MRI of his spine (I think) next week then seeing oncologist with result but as a family we are absolutely devastated. He presented with visible blood in urine  but had only had this for a short time before diagnosis and thought it was  a UTI.I am struggling to hold it together for him and my Mum.

  • Hi Louise77

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis.

Having a MRI is very common practice I believe when diagnosed. I know I had both an MRI and a CT scan.

I have to be honest and say my diagnosis is fairly new end 2022, and I don't have a great deal of experience. However this group has helped me and hope it can do the same for you

Wishing you and your father all the best during these worrying times.

  • Hi BFG,

Thank you for the kind words

  • Dear Louise77, no one can deny this is awful for all of you. Please consider getting support from the MacMillan helpline, who can also signpost you all to additional support I believe.

Every area also has a carers' association, the support on offer varies a lot. But it would do no harm for you to phone and check, for you, Mum and anyone else supporting your Dad. You should be able to find them online or in the phone book. Also some hospitals have Maggies centres or other drop-ins, where you can just go for a cuppa and sympathy. While the Mac helpline tel:0808 8080000 is open 8-8 7/7, at any time day or night the Samaritans will gladly listen to your worries without you thinking of harming yourself, they'll understand.

And we are here for you as well. Sending a virtual hug,

    Denby
