Hello everyone.

I have just been diagnosed with bladder cancer. A complete shock. Thought it was just a UTI or kidney infection at worst. Have had TURBT last week. Surgeon worried it has broken through wall of bladder. Thorax CT scan on Wednesday. Bladder cancer rarer in women apparently but usually more aggressive. So the journey begins.

  • Hello Pugmummy

Welcome to the Online Community. I hope that you find it as supportive and informative as I have done. I found sharing my journey with others who were going through the same thing really helpful.

I am sorry to see that you have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and I understand what a shock that must be. Having a diagnosis is always a worrying time. I see that you have a CT scan on Wednesday and hope that this goes ok and that you don't need to wait too long for the results. It is routine to have a CT scan following a diagnosis. It helps the doctors stage the cancer and decide on the best treatment. What happens next is usually a multi disciplinary team meeting where the medical people involved will discuss all the results and your health and diagnosis and then come up with a treatment plan. I felt better in a way once I had a firm diagnosis and knew what was likely to happen next.

In the mean time I will pop a link here with some info that you may want to have a look at. It gives you an idea of some of the possible treatments that you may be offered.

In the mean time if you feel it would be helpful to talk to someone the support line number is at the end of this and they are lovely on there.

If there is anything else that would help please do let us know, but I hope this helps a bit. Good luck with your scan on Wednesday.

  • Hi  and a welcome to the group from me. Bladder cancer is not as rare as you may think. Always in the top ten of all cancers even though few people have heard of it. Slightly higher for men, but more ladies are now being diagnosed. The positive is that bc can be treated successfully and many here can tell the tale. Good to know you have had your TURBT and scan planned. The CT is to rule anything else out and give them a bigger picture of what they are dealing with. Don't be alarmed if you are called for a second TURBT. This is normal just to mop up and help with a more accurate diagnosis. Once all results are in a treatment plan will be put in place. Lots of experience here so feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
