Firstly, I am feeling very fortunate, I came back from theatre and woke up feeling OK had a small leakage of blood with a couple of clots, immediately cleaned up by nurse, then had some water and cup of tea, managed to pee in bottle, quite a lot of blood in it and stung a bit while peeing. More water and a sandwich, then 2nd pee in bottle, nurse said all looking good and took ultrasound of bladder, all good.

The staff were brilliant and made sure that I was OK to walk, etc. then I was allowed to go home, I had arrived at hosp at 07.00 seen consultant by 08.30, op by 09.30, home by 14.00

had a nap that afternoon with a couple of trips to the loo, first couple of pees were quite alarming with blood and small clots and burned a bit (was taking paracetamol) main difference from before op was more discomfort, but, more significantly, when I felt the need to go it was very sudden and urgent, happily we have loos very close to living room an ensuite bedroom.

decent night’s sleep, couple of visits to loo, with blood fading each time.

Got up this am and was almost back to normal, still burned a bit but wee is almost clear, more import, burning sensation is less strong and short-lived, so very encouraging.

Now to some questions, before op, the surgeons said that urethra had a “narrowing” and that he might need to stretch it or “Make a little cut” I was aware that my prostate is enlarged and when I had the 1st cystoscope it was a bit tight. Since the op the flow is better, albeit very uncomfortable, so I am wondering if the widening procedure was, in fact, a TURP and might, in itself, be a permanent improvement?

I am wondering about the lack of a catheter and not having the chemo treatment, I hope this is a good sign, but not sure if it is significant?

I will be able to ask all these questions and more once the biopsy results are back, but would be interested, in the meantime, any shared experience would be much appreciated.

I am 73, retired last November after 46 years as an Overhead Linesman in the Power Industry, quite a heavy manual job that was working in a brilliant 5-man team and  fun right up to the last day.

In early 2021 I was overweight and type 2 Diabetic, then I caught Covid and very nearly died, 10 days in hosp included a spell in a CPAP unit that forces oxygen into your lungs through a close-fitting “space helmet”

During the 10 days I lost 15 lbs in weight and, when I came out, I determined to use that loss as a springboard and took on a personal trainer and a regime of diet and exercise with the result that, 6 months later I had lost 2.5 stone, was in remission from Diabetes (no meds) and was SCUBA diving in the Red Sea

I use an Oura Ring which is a very clever fitness tracker and measures activity, sleep patterns, heart rate, blood oxygen, etc. have a strenuous workout with PT supervision once a week and try to walk briskly for 30 mins every day.

Sorry if I appear to be blowing my own trumpet (a few lbs have sneaked back on) but, when reading posts I sometimes wonder what other problems the writer might have.

  • Hello  and a warm welcome to the group. An interesting read with many things sounding very familiar. Good to know you came through the op relatively unscathed. It will take a few days for the pee stinging to settle down. It is important to keep drinking plenty of water to keep blood and debris flushed out. A chemo wash is not always used and your doc must have deemed it not necessary. A few weeks wait for biopsy repots to see where you go next. Something they don't always tell you is that at the 10-15 day point you may start passing small clots. This is the healing process as the scab starts breaking away and is passed. Can be a bit frightening if you are not expecting it. Good to hear of your new fitness regime. I hope all goes well going forward. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks for the swift reply, I will watch out for the 10-15 day point for clots, etc. Just come off the phone after the team leader from my job called to see how I am getting on, I am still on their WhatsApp group, so can keep an eye on what they are up to.

    thanks againThumbsup

  • Hi, thanks for the quick response and welcomeThumbsup

  • Thanks for the quick response and welcome, I will keep an eye out for the 10-15 day stage. Have just come off the phone from my work team leader who called to see how I am doing. I am still on theirThumbsuphatsApp group, so can see what they are up to, our work is mainly rural, so just getting into “deck chair time” I miss work a bit, but you can’t go on forever. Thanks again Thumbsup
