Thank you, so good to have found others in the same boat. Like so many other females I feel that I was fobbed off by the GP for over six months took the locum to refer me and now seem to be on a roller-coaster. I had the cystoscopy on 2nd November and now wish I hadn't seen the screen as that view remains with me of all the long strands waving about. On the following Saturday I had the CT with contrast and am now booked in having had my pre-op for TURBT on Friday. My blood pressure was high before all this but now feel totally stressed as I am the carer for my husband and he had a fall last week so even less mobile but insists that will be fine, I know that I have to focus for now on me but can someone tell me what the recovery time is likely to be and at some point does the pain reduce or do the meds just get stronger.
Thank you for any help and being able to talk to someone who knows not just making a guess.
Dear Carol, I am not the patient but the partner, there seems not to be a clear answer to your question, everyone is an individual and circumstances and reactions although similar never seem to by the same.
my partner had his first Turbt in 2019 as a day patient only and was told he would need follow up appointments and to use self catheterizing for the time being.
Covid stepped in and appointments were postponed and was told only to contact them if he had any problems when he contracted them.
in June this year, he started bleeding again quite badly, from then on it’s been one thing after another, scans, test another Turbt with overnight stay followed by other assessments etc.
He now has stage three muscle invasive bladder cancer, they wanted to remove his bladder, but pre op tests confirms he is not able to go through such a lengthy operation due to his heart condition.
The only way forward is Radiotherapy which he starts this Wednesday ,
I hope your Turbt goes well on 13th and is a straight forward procedure. with no further complications,
kind regards and best wishes
Thank you Trazel, I do hope that all goes well for your partner, it appears that many others have had the same experience of delays but so good to be able to be open and honest on here and talk to others, Friday will soon be here and hopefully know for certain just were we stand by the new year.
Hi Carol27. Many people are out the same day or maybe an overnight. In general, many can carry on with normal activities after a day or but there can be exceptions. Just nothing strenuous. I was in for four days for my first but only because they had to dig deep. Didn't really have any after effects only the usual stinging when peeing for a few days. Two follow up TURBTs, I was in and out in several hours with no after effects and back to normal after a day or so. Just took things easy for a week or so. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi Carol27,Welcome to this friendly group.I was a carer for my late mother. After a TURBT I usually took it a bit easier for a day or two.I was able to care for mum but avoided any heavy lifting or too much bending/stretching for a few weeks to avoid the risk of haemorrhage. After the TURBT you need to drink enough to keep the bladder flushed out.Regular painkillers and a hot water can help if you are in pain afterwards.I never found the procedure that bad.Best wishes for your TURBT,there is plenty of support and advice here.Jane
Hi Rily,
Thank you, don’t want to have to get help in as that would stress my husband and the idea of me in hospital for the day is doing him no favours, which as you can understand has a knock on effect, as I try to talk down how I’m feeling so not to worry him while my head is doing 90mph on all the ifs, buts and maybe.
Thank you.
All want well, which is all I could ask, the pain I woke up too was a full 10 and took some time but everyone was so kind and helpful and since I received what he called every thing in his drugs box I have only had one paracetamol, discomfort yes but minor pain so far seems to be gone, awaiting the biopsy but they hope it is none invasive which I think is a win after the delay in getting my GP to understand that what I knew about my body was not right, thank you to everyone for their help and good wishes.
Hi Carol27,I’m glad it went well and that your pain is better.I hope you can take it a bit easier while you are healing. It’s difficult when you are a carer.Fingers crossed that it is non invasive and you get your results soon.Love and best wishes Jane x
