Hello all. Just joined..kept getting macmillan messages so i thought I'd sign up and see whats going on.
52 years old. Had neobladder 3 months ago. Feeling pretty good. Wifes been amazing. Started cycling again recently and going to play tennis for the first time tomorrow.
1. I'm just wondering if its too much to early.
2. These sodium bicarbonate pills. Anyone have experience of a reduction in number to take over time... or can they be replaced by natural alternatives
I'll try to be a bit active on the forums and give any advice based on my experience..best regards. J
Hi Bluepanther and welcome aboard. Good to know your recovery is going well. I've not had RC, so can't answer your questions, but someone else should be able to. Nice to hear you have great support from your wife, it does make a difference. Your experience will be very welcome from those heading in the same direction. Best wishes.
Radical Cystectomy (bladder removal)
Hi, I was 57 when I had RC & neo. Sounds as though you are doing really well. If you feel up to doing those activities, go ahead, but be prepared to take it a little easy, perhaps a shorter session than usual. Stop if you feel pain or fatigue. I started a phased return to work at 3 months but was immensely tired at the end of the day.
I never needed sodium bicarbonate pills - you need to ask your consultant about that. They will probably want to do blood test to decide if you can scale back. Don't try any alternative without consulting them. Best wishes for continuing good health!
Very interesting that you didnt take sodium... I'll have to ask the consultant about it on my next follow up. Thx
I think my consultant is quite conservative about medicating & if the blood gases are OK, no sodium bicarb. Some hosp dish it out automatically, just in case.
Well that gives me some hope the meds might be reduced. Thx
