Does anyone know when you start relaxing about tests & everything being done? There has to come a time when you start coming to terms with things right? Just wondering when that will be. Any advice greatly appreciated x

  • Hi . Difficult one to answer as I am sure everyone knows what you mean, but some people come to terms with things better than others. I was full of anxiety and dire, but once I got on the treatment path I just went with the flow from one appointment to the next and put all my faith in the medics. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • We're all different, so hard to say. I think we all get anxious with tests/reviews etc looming. Also depends what sort of treatment path you have. When you have followed the medics advice & taken the best action to treat the cancer & the gap between test etc widens, it becomes easier to get on with life without cancer being the main focus. Best wishes.

  • I find that I get anxious the day before I get results, but not as bad as I used to, it's been five years now. I don't think you ever get used to it completely. I took part in the Macmillan life coaching, which helped a great deal,  but I don't know if it's still on offer. The tests and scans don't bother me at all, but I think it effects people in different ways.

It doesn't matter where you go, there you are
  • I found it hit me hardest during the recovery from the surgery.I coped well before then.I’m sure the pandemic made the situation worse.I was on my own and had more time to think.I don’t worry about tests etc but I do get anxious about the results.Jane

  • Good morning Rachel72 and you pose an interesting question. Not many people get to see pictures of the inside of their bladder. Over the years I’ve seen pictures of my vocal chords, the retina of my eye, a detailed picture of my spine and a panoramic tour of my teeth. With a keen interest in photography this gives a fascinating insight into what’s going on. So from this standpoint I usually approach these procedures as a bit of an adventure into the unknown, occupies your mind and distracts you from worrying too much, regards, J.

  • I’m always fascinated if I can watch these procedures too.My partner is the complete opposite.Several years ago I went with him when he was due to have a colonoscopy. The consultant was telling John he would be able to watch if he wanted.John turned an interesting shade of green and politely muttered no thanks.Jane x

  • I'm with John, not my cup of tea especially if it shows something there that shouldn't be there. I'd rather watch a football match.

  • To be fair, I don't think I would like to watch it either Laughing
