I have recently been diagnosed with surface/superficial Ta high grade bladder cancer following TURBT, now been booked in for re-resection as a 'belt and braces' as they put it. Just wondering if anyone else has had this at all?
I am also having lots of trouble sleeping since getting the results and I think I would have felt better if it had been straight to treatment rather than a second op. and I have this feeling of dread all the time and I am not normally like this at all so not feeling like 'me' right now and have this overwhelming though that I just want to get back to being 'normal'. Any advice or thoughts at all would be very welcome.
Thanks
Dolphina
Hi and a warm welcome to the group. I am sure you will get lots of support here as you go forward. A follow up TURBT (resection) is normal. It is just a kind of mopping up operation to check they have not missed anything. Usually a lot less severe than the original. A few biopsies will give them a bigger picture of what they are dealing with. The way you are feeling is normal. I think most of us have gone through this. It is the uncertainty and not knowing that causes the anxiety. Bladder cancer can be treated successfully and many of us here have been through it. After your TURBT they will discuss what further treatment may be needed. It is a step at a time treatment, so try not to look too far ahead. Feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes.
Thanks ever so much rily I do appreciate your information and advice, it is so difficult to know what's what and I just need to stop getting ahead of myself and as you say, take it a step at a time. Just wish I could sleep better as I get to mid-day and begin to fear going to bed again as I am expecting not to sleep. I know I shouldn't but it's the way I am at the moment. Definitely not like 'me' at all.
Thank you again,
Dolphina
Hi Dolphina, my husband had the same as you back before Covid and is now onto checks three or six monthly The best "If I were you" I can say at the moment is to get outside every day whether that's for a walk or gardening or whatever, and try to spend time doing whatever absorbs you enjoyably to give your head some time off fretting.
My favourite tactic if I can't get off to sleep is a milky bowl or giant mug of sloppy porridge made with milk and either fine oatmeal or instant porridge. And a good book as long as it won't give me bad dreams.
Best wishes,
Denby
Hi Denby, thanks ever so much for your reply and I am so pleased to hear your husband is now onto 3 or 6 monthly checks that's so positive. I am walking every day to exercise and get some fresh air and hoping that helps me sleep later on. I am working full time as well so that's a good distraction, it's the unoccupied time when those thoughts creep in so trying to keep pushing them away and staying positive. It's really good to have suggestions, hints and tips so I really appreciate your help.
Thank you again
Best wishes
Dolphina
