Hiya what's everyone's thought of BCG BLADDER TREATMENT please.
I have been given choice to have BCG. I'm 44 male, I'm dreading for them to inject BCG going through your private , I'm also very septical to pain.
Good morning Alleykatt, and welcome to the forum. BCG treatment is designed to activate your immune system to clear up cancer cells after TURBT . Forget your inhibitions , nothing is private in the world of urology and the insertion of a catheter is something you’ll soon regard as normal. It’s not particularly painful and after the first half dozen you’ll wonder why you had any concerns. You haven’t said what procedures you’ve had to reach this stage, maybe a flexible cystoscopy , in which case you have some idea of the BCG procedure, best wishes, J
Have watched nurses giving Mitomycin to my husband, he had previously had 6 BCG and the procedure is the same. The nurses were so matter of fact and routine while kind, that there was no embarrassment at all. I believe a numbing gel can be used if necessary. I don't remember them ever telling my husband to cough, but it's been mentioned on here that giving a cough when the catheter is to pass through the prostate gland will ease this. And it doesn't go on for ever, my husband was also G3 [pTa] and now only has to have a check every 6 months because the treatment has worked, although there is always risk of recurrence hence the checks.
Hope this info is of some reassurance,
Denby
