Hi guys
my sister has just been diagnosed with high grade transitional cell carcinoma, histology results say grade 2 but waiting on CT scan, I am very worried and was hoping to hear from anyone that has been through this or family or friends that have and just hear their stories and what to expect next
many thanks
Hi and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear about your sister. Good to know you are here for her and you will get lots of support here. Any cancer brings fear not just to the person involved, but has a reaching effect on family and friends. Please be aware that bladder cancer can be treated successfully and there are many of us here to tell the tale. I was diagnosed with muscle invasive 8 years ago and still doing well. Please feel free to ask any questions, no matter how trivial they may seem. We understand. Best wishes.
Hello again . A CT scan is normal practice. More of a precaution to make sure there is nothing else going on outside the bladder, and gives them a better picture of what they are dealing with. There will be a few weeks anxious wait for results. You mention G2 which is the type of abnormal cell. G2 is a lesser aggressive type. It is the T stage which is more important. The T (tumour) is how far advanced in to the bladder wall. I assume your sister has had a TURBT operation to remove what they can as she has the histology report. When all results are in they will develop a treatment plan, and life becomes easier when you have a plan and something positive to focus on. Best wishes.
Hi . T2 means the tumour(S) has penetrated the bladder muscle, but not gone through it which is good news. I was T3 which meant it went through the bladder muscle and in to the external fatty tissue. Caught just in time. I had chemo and radiotherapy but it is early days for your sister, there are various treatments. This is a one step at a time procedure whichever way it goes. It's possible your sister will have a follow up TURBT, but again this is routine just as a mopping up procedure and not as severe as the first. Best wishes.
Good morning Rossnewc , how are you doing and more importantly how is your sister ? In December last year I was told my diagnosis was g3pt1tcc and that the medics would have a second look by rigid cystoscopy in January. In January the cancerous material was removed and I started BCG in March . After 6 BCG treatments I had a flexi cystoscopy to see what effect the BCG had made. The result of this was that the bladder was cancer free at that time. Tests will continue on a 3 monthly basis into the future. I hope this gives hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, best wishes, John.
