Hi everyone,

I have just joined today and just wanted to talk to perhaps someone in the same position.

my dad was diagnosed in March this year and has had ct scans, biopsy and we are taking him to Exeter hospital next week to talk about the op for bladder removal.

he’s not strong enough to have chemo before the bladder op so they are hopefully going to remove the bladder before chemo.

I feel so helpless as he is in so much pain and I hate seeing my dad like this.

He seems to suffer pain a lot when he has emptied his bladder and suffers for about 20minutes later, I so wish I could take the pain away.

any positive comments would be welcome.

  • Hi and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear your dad is in a lot of discomfort while waiting for his op. I had a different treatment, so no help, but I am sure our members experienced with this will be along with advice.. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Sar 44, Like rily I don't have the experience to offer, my husband's bc has not caused such severe problems. Just thinking, have you tried calling the Macmillan Nurse advice line for help? They might have ideas about pain relief in the meantime for your Dad.

    Best wishes, Denby

Hi Denby thanks for replying, I’m trying to stay strong for my dad but today has not been a good day.I feel so helpless and just thought I would post here to people who have felt the same about someone they love.

    thanks again

  • Hi Sar44,I’m so sorry your dad is in pain. There are several people here who have had bladder removal.I had mine out in 2019 and it made a huge difference as my bladder pain went afterwards.Let us know how your dad gets on at the hospital. We can help with support and advice if your dad is suitable for the surgery. It is a big operation but you can have a good life after it.Love and best wishes Jane

Dad is 72 and is a quiet man at the best of times, he’s never had anything really wrong with his health so to be poked and prodded about it a bit much for him.

Hi Sar44, I hope your Dad is doing better. Just to say I saw you had commented on my earlier thread when I had reached out about my Dad, I have left you a wee reply there. I’m so sorry I’m only seeing it now, I haven’t been as active on this site in last couple of months for various reasons. Hope you are ok too. Big hugs xx
