Hi all,

I am 11 days post my first TURBT and my bleeding passing urine is going from very heavy to light and back to heavy. I have some pain in my side when I pass and through the day and still hurts a lot to pass urine I don't have a fever and I am passing good amounts. Is this normal?

My family are worried and pressing me to go back to hospital but I don't want to hassle the hospital for something that is normal.

Any advice or experiences from others would be very valued and appreciated.

Thanks all

Rich

  • Hi Rich. At about the 10-15 days after a TURBT the scab on the wound starts to break away as part of the natural healing process and it is not unusual to see signs of blood and clots. It is important to drink lots of water to keep the debris flushed out. If the blood does not subside or get worse then best contact the medics. Do you have a CNS to call ? Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • I have been and am drinking around 3 to 5 litres of water a day. It is definitely worse in the morning. Yea I have been passing some clots too. I wasn't expecting the pain when passing urine and also in the side and back to bed so bad at this stage.

I'll see how things go over the weekend and perhaps call my CNS on Monday when they are available again.

    Thanks Rily

  • Hi Rich78,Sorry you are in pain.It would be wise to get medical advice if there is no improvement soon. You can still get infections without a fever so perhaps get a urine sample tested to rule that out ? I hope you feel better soon.Jane

  • Hello Rich, it is best to consult the medics if you are passing blood. Hospitals are busy but they are there to assist and advise. You will not be causing them hassle. While it is true, as rily and Jane (winkers60) have pointed out, that after a TURBT a certain amount of this type of discomfort and haematuria is fairly common, it is difficult as a patient to assess whether it is something that needs treatment. I have usually found Saturday evenings at around 6pm to be fairly quiet in A&E. If you can get to yours, why not pop in to put your mind at rest and maybe be prescribed antibiotics if they suspect an infection? I hope you feel better very soon.  Ray

  • I had the most horrendous pain for maybe 5 or 6 days after my first TURBT, and suffered in silence and just assumed it was normal.

Very sharp stabbing pain in my side when I urinated and then an aching for ages after.

So I would suggest something isn't right and get it checked out they may be able to give you something to help with the pain, it could be bladder spasms likeni had possibly.
