Hi All,
This is my first post- I had a radical cystectomy and prostatectomy last Tursday in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull.
The surgery went very well I think, it was performed robotically and I was discharged 5 days later.
My question is a very general one - I live in Howden whi h is 22 miles from the hospital and obviously I am not allowed to drive for 6 weeks post op. I don't really know anyone in the area, having only lived here for a few months. I have to attend outpatients every week but the hospital transport service has rejected my request for transport stating that I am too independent!!
I have had help from the ward and my stoma nurse and no one can get them to change their decision, this means I face an £80 return taxi trip each week which I can barely afford.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue and how did you resolve it?
Many thanks
Hi Tony W, that is ridiculous and totally unfair. I live in a rural place and though I haven't needed to use it I know from GPs info that there is a community transport scheme. Definitely ask for support from GPs. Only other thing I can think of is could a district nurse visit you instead? Fingers crossed you get some help. Best wishes Hx
Agreed its ridiculous - I had to get a taxi home following surger and instruct the driver to take it very easy over bumps
I am a retired nurse and have seen transport arranged for far less than major surgery, it beggars belief
