My beloved brave husband died on 14 February with bladder cancer.
I only have a very small pension and am worried as to how I will be able to cope financially.
I have checked on Gov.Uk but cannot find what I am looking for. Please can any one advise me as to where I should look to see if I am entitled to benefits etc. I just find it completely overwhelming at the moment.
Hello FloGlow . Really sorry to hear about your beloved husband, My thoughts are with you and your family. As regards finances, could I suggest you call the Mac free helpline on 0808 808 0000 (Mon-Fri 7days a week, 8-8pm). They have financial experts on hand who can advise what help you may be entitled to. You will find them very friendly and understanding. Best wishes.
Dear FloGow, such sad news. You have both been through a lot and 'completely overwhelming' is, I know, an understatement. I lost my wife in 2007 in a road traffic accident. 19 years later, the emotional aspects have eased but the memory is still too raw to dwell upon. Do you have family who can visit and help you with the arrangements? Another option regarding advice on the financial side is to visit a Citizens Advice Bureau if you have one which is close enough. Also, your local hospital may have a department who can advise on bereavement issues. My heart goes out to you. Ray xx
Hi FlowGlow, so sad to hear you have lost your beloved husband and that is enough to deal with without financial pressures. I guess all you can console yourself with is that he is free from pain and worry now. I would agree you should definitely reach out for help from Citizen's Advice, Macmillan, or one of the bereavement charities. If you are only receiving a small pension you are very likely qualify for state help with rent and/or council tax at the least but you need guidance from someone who has expertise and can take the pressure off you. Hope you have friends or family to support you at this terribly hard time. Sending you my sympathies. Hx
