Hi starting chemoradiation on Monday having a chemo pump fitted any advice would be appreciated thanks Phil x
Hi Phil. The pump is similar in size to a baby's bottle. They normally give you a pouch to fit on a belt to keep it in. You have it for a week and cannot take it off. Fun working out how you get your clothes on. I passed the bottle through my sleeve. The drugs are usually 5FU/MMC (fluorouracil and mitomycin) . The chemo is to help the radiation work more efficiently. Administered very slowly over the week so side effects should be minimum. I had no problems with it. Sleeping can be a bit awkward. I tried different positions but found wearing the pouch on a belt on my belly gave me the best movement option. You soon get used to it and can carry on as normal as long as no vigorous exercise. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.
Hello Phil, Rily’s synopsis is absolutely superb. I had similar a few years ago and managed it well. No pain or discomfort just a little awkward with regard to dressing and sleeping but nothing to be concerned about. My problem was no golf for a week! Good luck, stay well.
