Just finished my 6 weeks of BCG treatment, I am quite lucky really as I did not have any side effects.  Just wait now for 6 to 8 weeks to be checked for any reoccurrence.Fingers crossed the BCG has done its job.  If not I am not sure what happens then.

Can anyone enlighten me.

Thank you

  • Hi  . Good to know you made it through the treatment without too much trouble. I hope all goes well with your follow up. Best wishes.

  • Hi Maisies Granny, glad your induction course went comfortably. Like Garviv said try to enjoy the break from hospital and treatment. Next will be cystoscopy and if all goes well onward with the BCGs. BCG is a long long treatment, mine went on for almost 4 years. Have you got a Cancer Nurse Specialist assigned to you? The Urology clinic nurses felt like my best friends by the time I completed the process.....particularly as it was during Pandemic. Sending love Hx

  • Thank you everyone for your good wishes, yes I intend to enjoy the next few weeks. I did not realise the treatment could go on for so long.Thank you for this information. I have a specialist nurse and she is great.

    Thank you all.

  • Excellent that you had no real issues with the BCG, so fingers crossed for your next check up it has worked wonders for you hopefully.

  • Hi,

Good news the induction BCG went well with no side effects.

The treatments can vary depending on trusts, but you'll have an cyscopy or biopsy, then after three Months start the first batch of Maintenance BCG instillations.

The maintenance course is just 3 instillations instead of 6.

I'm scheduled to have 27 instillations and I've done 18 so far.

I started my BCG journey April 2023 and should be finished all being well September 2026 (ISH). Although I had some issues during my last batch, and I'm not sure I'll make the full 27.

Although we hear on here about trusts only doing 18 or 21 or other amounts, so yours might be different.

    Wishing you all the best.
