Hi all
Been having a bugger of a time with my bags , I use convex coloplast bags and had one leak last night , horrible pee everywhere ...I think it's because i used a baby wipe on my skin ...stupid I know ...didn't get a good fix. What does everyone use to clean stoma with? Just water like we were told or does anything else work OK?
Also I'm finding the night bag a pain , the line keeps twisting and cutting off the drainage? And i get like reverse suction on the bag so it's sucked in and the pee won't flow and then all of a sudden pressure must build up and the bag is full ? Am I doing something wrong ?xx
Hi,Sorry you are having problems.I use coloplast too and have sent back two samples as they are faulty.I posted on here and on the colostomy forum about it.The material front is coming away from the backing.I use Sensura Mio convex bags.Coloplast is investigating. They sent me a new box but those bags have been cut very thinly at the top and the material will probably fray on those too.I’ve had 4 leaks including one big leak at night recently.I use water to clean the stoma.Jane x
Hi podperson
I use luke warm water and then dry wipes. It's important to make sure the area around the stoma is bone dry . For extra confidence you can get an adhesive tape the goes around the outer edges.
At night I keep some pee in my bag and then connect the night bag. That let's me see that it flows ok into the night bag. Once it does I lift the tubing and the air is drawn out
Best wishes

Hi Podperson,
The night bag things happens to me too. When I started with the stoma - 2-3 years ago the night bags I was prescribed had longer and wider piping to attach to the stoma bag. But later that was discontinued and I now have only 4 foot piping. It's still OK but I notice the twisting more and sometimes the air problem.
Both are easily fixed. When I'm lying in bed I make sure that I turn the connection so there is no twisting. I sleep on my side and don't turn much (can't now reach the other side anyway with the short pipe) so that lasts all night usually. I always leave 250cc of urine to trickle into the night bag and that works fine. Then sometimes it does seem to stop and the stoma bag fills up. A bit of gentle moving of that bag usually settles it and gets it going again. Very rarely I sit or stand and gravity and a little moving of the pipe and or stoma bag generally works. After that, sometimes I then decouple the bags so the stoma bag opens up a bit with a little air getting in. Then I go back to sleep.
Hope this helps a bit - mostly learnt by trial and error - don't worry, we all work out what's best for us over time.
All the best,

It’s interesting how we all do something different.I keep the night bag in a bowl.I tried a stand but found it much better without one.I flatten out the bag before I connect it to remove any air.I read somewhere that a new shallow cat tray is ideal if you want to keep the night bag under the bed.Jane x
Try the simple profile bags : https://products.coloplast.co.uk/coloplast/continence-care/simpla/simpla-profile/simpla-profile-bedside-drainage-bag/ they have a longer tube, and flow easily. Just use warm water to clean the stoma, and dry wipes,. Sometimes I have to use adhesive remover to remove residual glue, but then wash with water and dry after. The simple bags can be positioned at the bottom of the bed.
