Travel Insurance - Cystoscopy count?

Would have tried in the general travel insurance forum group but this one is probably more relevant to our condition.

Back story - High Grade, aggressive, Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer in August 2024 - Just had Cystoscopy (5hours ago) after my 1st round of maintenance BCG (so I've had 9 in total now) which showed no recurrence and I'll continue to have another round of maintenance in approx 3 months time.

So I've had my 1st cystoscopy in August which spotted the tumour

Had a TURBT under general anaesthetic in September to remove said tumour

Had a procedure in February to take biopsies again under general anaesthetic showed to be clear

Had a cystoscopy today as per above

I am looking to get away before my next maintenance cycle and just trying to get holiday insurance given I had to cancel 2 trips last September / October.

One of the questions is "How many Cystoscopies have I had?" - The quotes are SIGNIFICANTLY more (doubles the £££'s) if I put 3+ rather than 2 - Have I had 2 or 4 based on the above?

Personally, I think I've had 4 as the 2nd/3rd procedures above I think are done as a Rigid Cystoscopy but wondered if others have come across the same question/challenge and could advise me?

Also seen that a 2 week policy is nearly the same price as an annual policy (£40 cheaper for Europe only) assume that is normal?

  • Hi UKTricky,It adds up to 4 cystoscopies as you thought.I can’t advise but I’m sure someone here will be able to help.I hope you able to get the insurance sorted and get away.Best wishes Jane

  • Many thanks Jane, it is what I expected...

Perhaps it's the Yorkshireman in me, but it feels annoying that the cystoscopies are actually confirming that things are OK but getting charged more for having one!!

  • It doesn’t seem fair. It’s good to hear that you have no recurrence though.Best wishes for a quick recovery from this cystoscopy.Jane
