My husband is awaiting radio therapy ( starts on Monday) for T2 bladder cancer. After the tumour was removed, his health improved, he was eating well and beginning to put on weight. Recently he has started to feel unwell and has lost his appetite and is losing weight again. Please can anyone tell me if this is normal as I am really worried about him.
Hi FloGlow, does your husband have a Cancer Nurse Specialist? If so definitely give a ring and ask for support. Maybe his deterioration is linked to anxiety about the up coming treatment, of course it's perfectly reasonable to be apprehensive. I know I'm inclined to stop eating when I'm worried, which then causes weakness. While I was waiting for my hip replacement I lost a stone! Sending best wishes for next week Hx
Thank you so much for your prompt kind reply. I think we are both so overwhelmed with everything that is going on that we have not thought about ringing the Cancer Nurse Specialist. My husband is not apprehensive re his treatment as we know several people who have had this treatment and have reassured him, that apart from fatigue, it is fine. I do know that he is suffering extreme discomfort from having a temporary nephrostomy inserted into his kidney which has been infected twice. Thank you so much again for your reply and he will certainly ring the Cancer Nurse Specialist for support. Kind regards
Hi FloGlow,
I'm in almost the same boat!
I'm waiting to hear if my T1 high grade cancer has been up graded to a T2 after having extra biopsies a week and a half ago. Then in about 3 weeks I believe my treatment will start of either immunotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm waiting on my results to make a final decision.
I too felt rubbish for a couple of weeks after having the tumor out and then slowly picked up almost to my normal old self.
I had the second surgery with the biopsies but I too am feeling really dizzy, nauseous, fatigued and have very little appetite.
I'm finding small nibbles of fruit, yogurts, sandwiches and small dinners of pasta, salads or something I can just put down if I need to and go back to later or for lunch then next day so I don't waste it really helps. I just eat healthy good food in small doses through the day, and not to late before going to bed either or I feel uncomfortable .
I too am loosing weight quite quickly so I'm making sure what I put in my body is good food and make it count.
I've been in contact with my GP, clinical nurse and all these lovely lot on the forum and have had lots of good advice and support from everyone. It really helps to know you're not alone and being looked out for.
I've had quite a few days recently where I've been really low, but after contacting all of the above I've come back out of it and feel a bit better.
Just know there's lots of support and help out there especially at these scary times!
I hope everything goes well and you get some reassurance from your CNS xxx
Thank you for your reply and I am so sorry that you are having the same problems. My husband's specialist nurse is on holiday but another very nice nurse got in touch with him to advise him to ask his GP for a test to rule out an UTI infection, which he will do when seeing the GP tomorrow. He has been having problems when peeing with pain. Unfortunately though he has been on 6 lots of antibiotics since beginning of February due to a temporary stent inserted in his kidney, so if this is an infection, it will probably mean more anti-biotics. Thank you again for your support and trust you have good news re the stage of the cancer.
No problem FloGlow!
I too have problems when I pee! I'm very sensitive down there despite no infections.
I've had 2 turbts in a month plus all the other things they have to stick up there
My bladder lets out a really intense sickly dull ache as I finish peeing and it relaxed.
My doctor put me on 'Buscopan' to help with the spasms as I struggle every time they do anything to me and I've found it really really helps!
Maybe worth checking with your doctor/nurse?
Chloe x
Thank you again for your reply. It certainly is reassuring to know that you are experiencing the same problems (my husband has not had any turbts) and he will certainly mention Buscopan to his GP. Thank you again, you have been so kind in your reassurance. Kind regards
Hi Floglow. When your husband goes to the GP tomorrow, get him to take a sample with him for testing. I had radiotherapy for T3 and didn't have any real issues with it apart from tiredness towards the end. I hope the treatment goes well. Best wishes.
