I know a very generic ask, but I am about to start "maintenance" cycles of BCG having gotten through the 1st 6 and then a follow-up general anaesthetic with random biopsies taken which were all clear (I was high risk at diagnosis). So I am scheduled for first block of maintenance (3 sessions followed by a cystoscopy camera) starting at the of the month so fingers crossed for those.
Is it possible to get travel insurance (probably just Europe rather than long haul) whilst undergoing such treatment or would they all say I am undergoing treatment so not covered? If so suspect that'd mean I am not going abroad for quite some time!!!
Any real experience? Recommended companies?
I have cover as part of my Bank Account who did pay out twice for bookings I had to cancel due to the diagnosis and operations!
Hi Uktricky , welcome to the forum and I hope you find it friendly and helpful. I am not sure if you mean whether that you wanted a break actually in the week between BCG or after you have finished the maintenance ? If you click on my profile, I have recorded my bladder cancer journey so far , with BCG and effects. I have just checked the dates and noted that i had a few days in Berlin after the maintenance number 9 and before the cystoscopy biopsy. I had insurance and declared everything to them, insurance cost around £100 for the few days. I am always reluctant to make recommendations because I didnt need to make a claim, so couldnt comment on how the company would be if i did. I think somewhere on the forum there is a Travel insurance thread. Hopefully rily may know how to find it . Best of luck
Much love Angela x
Hi UKTricky and a welcome to the group from me. The general advice re travel insurance is to actually talk to the companies by phone rather than book online. That way you make sure everything is covered without any confusion. We do have a dedicated group re insurance if you click HERE . Have a browse through the recommendations. Best wishes.
Many thanks Angela - I would probably look to go between BCG and Cystoscopy Camera sessions (assuming all is good with treatment) but would want to have cover prior to booking to ensure that if plans suddenly changed then I would be covered.
I think a phone call to my current insurer might be in order as rily suggests but will also check out the group suggested.
Thanks again both
Hi Uktricky, how good does it feel to be thinking of holidays again. So good for your mental wellbeing. I recently went on holiday between the 1st and 2nd rounds of maintenance and I used a company called All Clear. I got annual, worldwide cover with cruise cover added and it was very reasonable. As the other lovely people said, it is best to call them rather than do it on line so you don't miss declaring anything. Good luck with your search for insurance and hope you have a wonderful time
Anne xx
