Hi all
Turbt op next Thursday , first time for me. I'm a little bit nervous but been reassured by the lovely people on here that it will be fine so thank you.
I was hoping they might keep me in for the night but it's a 7.30am op so probably be going home same day.
I had a surprising call 5 days ago to go for a PET scan which i had yesterday.... Is this standard procedure before a Turbt op anyone know?...i did ask before i had the scan but they just said wait for your specialist to contact you which left me concerned.
Best wishes to everyone
Dave
Hi Dave. Good to know you have a date. It takes the pressure off a bit. They still may keep you in so prepare for an overnight just in case. They don't always stick to the times. The op itself is fairly straightforward. Doesn't take long. You will probably wake up with a catheter and in most cases this is removed before you go home. Look forward to the tea and toast when you come round. Really nice after not eating for a while. Best wishes.
Hi again Dave. Just on the scan. Scans are routine to rule anything else out and give them another part of the jigsaw in order to determine future treatment. Never read too much in to the timing of appointments. Different departments do not talk to each other and send their appointments out independently. Best wishes.
Hi Dave, scans are standard when there is a suspicion of cancer, which is the reason you are having your TURBT. Generally there will be an MRI planned as well, but I guess appointments depend on when your hospital has a space. TURBTs as Rily says are nothing to worry about. Afterwards you can expect a two week wait while biopsies are looked at and any possible treatments considered by the Multi Disciplinary Team. I was given a follow up appointment when my results were shared, and treatment options offered. I also met my Clinical Nurse Specialist who became my go-to contact for advice. Mine is a marvel so I wish you similar good luck. Hx
Hi dave
When I had my turbt I was in for 7.30. I was 3rd on the list and was taken to theatre at 9 45 and back in recovery ward for 11.15 and main ward for 12.15. I had a spinal. If you are having a spinal the power will come back to your lower body gradually. I was sent home at 5pm but of course I may have been lucky.
Stay positive
Mark
